Reading

Reading at Stedham

We believe reading opens windows and mirrors — windows onto other worlds, experiences and ideas; mirrors so children can see themselves, their values and their place in the world. Through reading, children build knowledge, empathy, curiosity, and the ability to think critically. At Stedham, our reading curriculum aims to develop confident, fluent readers who read with understanding, enjoy a rich variety of texts, and carry a lifelong love of reading.

Phonics at Stedham

At Stedham, we use Bug Club as our phonics scheme to help children develop confident reading skills and a genuine love of learning. With its engaging stories, interactive activities, and carefully structured progression, Bug Club supports every child in building strong phonics knowledge while enjoying the excitement of reading. By making reading fun, accessible, and meaningful, we aim to inspire lifelong learners who feel proud of their achievements and eager to explore new books and ideas.
